DNA leads to Norwalk assault arrest

NORWALK, Calif. The suspect is identified as 31-year-old Antonio Durell Freeman.

Investigators say Freeman broke into the victim's condominium at a complex on Bayside Drive near the 605 Freeway in the early morning hours of May 1.

When the victim went downstairs to see what was going on, the suspect demanded money and then sexually assaulted her before leaving.

At the time, officials collected DNA evidence from the crime scene, but no suspects were named and no arrests were made.

Then, in July, Freeman was arrested by Long Beach police for spousal assault. Authorities took a DNA sample from him at that time.

On Friday, after an analysis of the DNA, sheriff's officials confirmed that Freeman's DNA matched the DNA recovered from the Norwalk crime scene.

He was arrested Friday in the Willowbrook area.

Freeman is reportedly scheduled to appear at the Bellflower courthouse on Tuesday.
