Ken Howard named new SAG president

LOS ANGELES Howard is part of a group of SAG members who led a boardroom coup at the union in January.

They installed new negotiators and worked out a deal with Hollywood producers for a contract. Prior to that, with guidance from previous president /*Alan Rosenberg*/, talks with producers didn't produce a contract. Howard beat hardliner, Anne-Marie Johnson, in the race for SAG president.

Howard is said to be in favor of working with the other actors union, AFTRA, so actors are a united force when contract talks with producers come around again.

This has been a good week for /*Ken Howard*/. He won an Emmy on Sunday night for the HBO movie, "Grey Gardens."
