Gunfire rang out around 2:15 a.m. along Roscoe and Ventura Canyon.
Investigators said that the victim was standing at his car pumping gas when another vehicle pulled up with two men inside. One of the suspects asked the victim where he was from, which is a common gang question.
The victim reported told the two men that he didn't play that game and that's when the suspects opened fire.
The victim was shot once in the upper torso and was taken to the hospital. He is in stable condition Saturday night and is expected to make a full recovery.
Investigators don't have any description of the two suspects who were in the vehicle or the car itself.
Authorities are looking for any clues in this shooting.
