SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. --
A Bay Area man is undergoing a psychiatric evaluation in jail after climbing into the grizzly bear enclosure at the San Francisco Zoo.Officials describe 21-year-old Kenneth Herron as a transient who has a criminal record.
A zoo official says once Herron got into the enclosure, he froze which helped keep the two, 500-pound grizzlies calm.
One of them smelled Herron's shoes but did not attack him.
Police say there is no indication that Herron was drunk or on drugs at the time.
