He grabbed his gun and shot and killed the 800-pound, 12-foot alligator.
The alligator Hughes killed was reportedly just five inches shorter than the Texas record. Hughes' now determined to hunt another alligator again.
"I wasn't even afraid," he said. "Next year I'm going to kill me a bigger alligator."
