SAN PEDRO, Calif. --
Two kayakers were rescued from rough seas late Sunday night after being spotted by a Coast Guard helicopter. The two kayakers, whose names were not released, were trying to kayak from Catalina Island to Redondo Beach despite small craft advisories and near gale-force winds in the channel between Catalina and San Pedro.
When they failed to arrive as expected by 8 p.m. Sunday, a Coast Guard chopper and cutter began the search. The bright full moon helped.
The kayaks were spotted in choppy water and six-foot swells, four miles off Point Fermin.
The kayakers were pulled aboard the rescue ship and were said to be okay.
