Mel Gibson's criminal record cleared

LOS ANGELES A judge granted a motion Tuesday to expunge Gibson's now infamous drunken driving conviction in Malibu.

The actor/director was not in court for the decision.

Gibson was arrested on Pacific Coast Highway in July 2006 for driving 87 mph with an open bottle of tequila in his hand. His blood alcohol content was 0.12. The legal limit is .08.

During his arrest, Gibson made anti-Semitic comments to the arresting deputy who is Jewish, according to the initial report by the /*Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department*/.

Most first-time DUI offenders are eligible to have convictions wiped from their records if they complete the terms of their probation.

But Gibson could still be eligible for enhanced charges if he is ever arrested again for driving under the influence.
