Scam artists target Ventura elderly

VENTURA, Calif. Police say suspects call their victims and identify themselves as a relative, usually a grandson or a nephew.

The victim gives the name of a relative and the suspect says they are in trouble somewhere outside the country and need money.

The victims are convinced to wire money to the suspect.

Investigators are asking people to talk with older family members about the information they give on the phone.
