Fire breaks out in Tarzana church

TARZANA, Calif. The fire was reported at 6:35 p.m. and extinguished in 25 minutes, according to Devin Gales of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Firefighters saw a large column of smoke and fire coming out of the building, which had spread to some trees nearby.

There is no estimate yet of the damage caused to the church, but reports state that the church's sanctuary is badly charred.

The cause of the fire at 5955 N. Lindley Ave., near Burbank Boulevard, is under investigation.
