Fire breaks out in Tarzana church

TARZANA, Calif. Fire investigators said several people were inside the St. Mary Holy Apostolic Catholic Assyrian Church when it caught fire at about 6:35 Friday night.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames in about 25 minutes and no one was injured.

Firefighters arrived at the scene and saw a large column of smoke and fire coming out of the building, which had spread to some trees nearby.

The fire is being investigated by the House of Worship Task Force, which investigates possible arson attacks on churches.

The task force includes members of the Los Angeles Fire Department, FBI, Los Angeles Police Department and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, according to Devin Gales of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The church is located at 5955 N. Lindley Ave., near Burbank Boulevard.
