Local woman celebrates 105th birthday

LOS ANGELES In 1904, Theodore Roosevelt was president, the New York City subway had just opened, the Panama Canal was under construction and on October 19th, Faye Allen was born, making the birthday girl 105 years old!

Music, cake and flowers marked the occasion at the Le Bleu Chateau Retirement Community in Burbank, Allen's home for the last 11 years.

"Usually she's a very happy person, and very good natured, gets along with everybody," said Ethel Nowlin, Allen's best friend.

Allen was born in Texas, where she worked as a teacher. Later, she and her husband moved to California and raised a son.

While Allen was short on words at the party, Nowlin summed up the secret to her friend's longevity, with a lesson for all of us.

"I don't think she really worries or has stress or things like that. She just takes things as they come," said Nowlin.

Allen has a niece and a grand-niece who still live in Texas.
