Christian book store 'peeping Tom' nabbed

SIMI VALLEY, Calif. Joseph David Ramon Moreaux of Lancaster was arrested Sunday. He was issued a citation and released after a female patron of the Family Christian Bookstore contacted the Simi Valley Police Department.

The woman said she had seen what she believed to be a recording device hidden in the restroom of the bookstore, located at 2986 Cochran Street. After spotting the device, she exited the bathroom and consulted with her husband, who was waiting outside. They contacted Simi Valley police.

Officers arrested Moreaux after finding a video-recording device concealed in boxes in the corner of the restroom, which both male and female patrons use.

Police say the contents of the recorder showed Moreaux hiding the device in the bathroom. He apparently had the recorder on as he was positioning it, police said.

"It appears he was on the videotape at the very beginning, placing it into position," said Simi Valley Police Sgt. Dwight Compton. "So it appears that this is an isolated incident. He had set it up just prior to her going into the bathroom, and she was the only victim that was on the tape."

Police are obtaining a search warrant for the bookstore and are asking anyone with information to contact detectives at (805) 583-6950.

"It's unbelievable, I mean, in a religious place you don't expect things like that," said customer Alina Pacheco. "It's just beyond my belief. I mean that guy should be put in jail. That's just crazy."
