O.C. project to widen 91 East begins

ANAHEIM HILLS, Calif. The nearly six-mile project will add an eastbound lane on the 91 between the 241 toll road and the 71 Freeway.

The expansion is expected to ease congestion for thousands of commuters.

Officials have not said how long the project will take to complete. On Monday, two additional FasTrak lanes along the 241 were opened in both directions, and that project took about a year.

The 91 expansion project will cost $47.9 million, making it Orange County's largest infrastructure improvement project funded by this year's American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Officials will hold a groundbreaking ceremony later Tuesday.
