Malibu septic-system ban passes

MALIBU, Calif. Late Thursday, the /*Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board*/ agreed to ban septic tanks in central and eastern Malibu. The board set a 2015 deadline for businesses to connect to a central sewage system. Residents have until 2019 to comply.

Surfers and environmentalists have raised concerns about raw sewage being dumped into the ocean.

Some residents are opposed to the amount of development needed for such a central sewage system and say it will cost too much to comply with the ban.
