O.C. mother sentenced in fatal crash

FULLERTON, Calif. Prosecutors say 29-year-old Tomeka Charee Harris was under the influence of methamphetamine when she fell asleep on the 91 Freeway on Jan. 12, 2008.

Harris crashed her Mitsubishi sport utility vehicle into a steel utility pole in Anaheim, killing 27-year-old Alfred Flores and her daughter Zharia. It was the day before the girl's second birthday.

Last month, Harris pleaded guilty to two counts of vehicular manslaughter.

As part of the court-offered plea deal, charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs causing injury and being under the influence of a controlled substance were dismissed along with sentencing enhancements for causing great bodily harm.

Harris could have faced up to 13 years in prison.
