Officers shot him in the torso.
Both men were taken to the hospital in critical condition. No officers were hurt in the incident.
The L.A. County District Attorney's Office is also investigating, which is routine for officer-involved shootings.
Long Beach officers shoot armed suspect
LONG BEACH, Calif. Police said a man was shot along the 1600 block of West 19th Street on Sunday night. As they searched for a suspect, they said they encountered a man who pulled out a handgun.
