Witnesses, including the victim's son, chased the suspect toward a nearby police station, where she was stopped by a motorcycle officer.
The victim and suspect both live in South Los Angeles.
Police have not determined a motive. Cato is on parole for a prior narcotics conviction and was being held without bail.
