More L.A. students are passing fitness test

LOS ANGELES New figures released Monday show that fifth, seventh and ninth graders all improved their scores on an annual fitness criteria test over last year.

Fifth graders saw a .5 percent rise in those who cleared all six tests with 26.6 percent passing rate

Seventh graders are up two percent to 30.5 percent, and 34.1 percent of ninth graders passed, up nearly two percent.

Despite the gains, school officials say it's not enough.

Children these days are twice as likely to be overweight as children of the 1980s.
