Angeles National Forest burn area roads reopen

LOS ANGELES Portions of Angeles Forest Highway, Big Tujunga Canyon Road and Upper Big Tujunga Canyon road were closed to traffic Sunday night. Officials feared a wet weather system moving through the area would create dangerous conditions on the roads.

Big Tujunga Canyon road from the City/County boundary to Big Tujunga Dam was reopened as of 10 a.m. Tuesday. The remainder of Big Tujunga Canyon Road, all of Angeles Forest Highway and Upper Big Tujunga Canyon road reopened at 4 pm Tuesday afternoon.

Public works officials are warning commuters and residents who live on private property in the forest that the roads could be closed any time then there is moderate to heavy rain predicted or falling in the burn areas. The roads will remain closed until the storm threat has passed and public works crews have inspected them.
