Gardena 'high-risk' barricade suspect arrested

GARDENA, Calif. The suspect was taken into custody at approximately 5:30 p.m.

A suspect refused to surrender to police early Wednesday and barricaded himself in the house. Police considered the suspect "high-risk."

Gardena Police attempted to serve an arrest warrant to a suspect at a house on the 1200 block of 168th Street in Gardena at approximately 6 a.m. Wednesday.

At least one SWAT team was on the scene Wednesday evening, and Gardena Police officers had the house and the block surrounded.

A bulldozer was called in to demolish part of the house in an attempt to access the suspect and force him to surrender.

Residents in the area of 168th Street and Budlong Avenue had been advised to remain indoors until police resolved the situation. Shortly after 5:30 p.m., the operation was winding down.
