AG to ask for review of body armor ruling

LOS ANGELES LAPD Chief Charlie Beck is urging Brown to appeal the decision, saying body armor gives violent criminals the upper hand.

The legislature imposed the ban after a 1997 gun battle in North Hollywood between police and two bank robbers wearing military-grade body armor.

Earlier this month, the 2nd District Court of Appeals overturned the ban, saying it was unconstitutionally vague.

Brown's appeal is expected to be filed in late January.
