The makeover is long overdue, the Strip has not been repaved since the 1930s. The city plans to grind away the top two levels of the roadway and replace it with rubberized asphalt. That should make the street quieter. West Hollywood will also replace about a third of the sidewalks, and make all of them more pedestrian friendly.
City officials hope the improvements will help rejuvinate the area, which has been hard-hit by the recession.
