Ground crews working in steep terrain were aided by helicopter crews, as they attempted to reach the driver and pull him to safety. The area is uphill from the waters of the San Gabriel Reservoir.
The driver, a 74-year-old man, was freed by 9:50 a.m. and was airlifted to Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena in unknown condition.
