Car falls 100 feet in Angeles National Forest

Firefighters rescued a driver after his car tumbled about 100 feet down an embankment in the Angeles National Forest.

Firefighters rescued an elderly driver after his car tumbled about 100 feet down an embankment in the Angeles National Forest on Monday.Rescuers responded to mile marker 21 on San Gabriel Canyon Road, just north of Azusa, at 8:04 a.m.

Ground crews working in steep terrain were aided by helicopter crews, as they attempted to reach the driver and pull him to safety. The area is uphill from the waters of the San Gabriel Reservoir.

The driver, a 74-year-old man, was freed by 9:50 a.m. and was airlifted to Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena in unknown condition.
