Cajon Pass, I-5 Grapevine open w/CHP escorts

GORMAN, Calif. Both directions of the Cajon Pass along I-15 were shut down at 5:44 p.m. The pass was closed going southbound at Bear Valley and northbound at SR-138. Lanes were reopened with CHP escorts after 9 p.m.

The Grapevine section of I-5 was closed for approximately three hours before CHP reopened it.

The snow caused hazardous driving conditions, with cars, trucks and 18-wheelers spinning their wheels but getting nowhere.

The driving conditions here are extremely treacherous, even for the locals.

"Very snow, you can't make any sudden moves. If you do, you're going to be sliding right off the road," said Dave Thomas, a Frazier Park resident.

"This is a little excessive. We had a good snow storm a couple years back, but they said we're in for it tonight. So I snuck up the back way. They have the freeway closed. So there are some ways to get back home," said Carl Reese of Pine Mountain.

In Gorman, the rain started falling in the evening, and this is the weather residents expect throughout the rest of the day.
