Huntington Beach bans popular game beer pong

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. The Huntington Beach City Council has passed an ordinance banning such games that involve alcohol from any new downtown restaurants.

In September, the city passed similar laws banning beer pong and similar games from existing restaurants with entertainment permits. The laws are designed to improve the image of the downtown portion of the beach city.

Huntington Beach Police Chief Ken Small says the games are not consistent with public safety.

Beer pong is played with cups of beer lined up on a ping pong table. If a member of an opposing team gets a ping pong ball into your cup, you have to drink the beer, and get rid of the cup. The goal is to eliminate the other teams' cups.
