2 arrested for robbing Rancho Cucamonga market

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. The incident happened Saturday at La Paloma Market on Archibald Avenue near Main Street in Rancho Cucamonga, shortly before 8 p.m.

The suspects are identified as 25-year-old Paul Valenzuela of Fontana and his girlfriend, 20-year-old Sylvia Garcia of Fontana.

Police say Valenzuela robbed the La Paloma Market at gunpoint. The clerk at the market pulled out a gun and shot him but investigators say he got away in a car driven by Garcia.

A short time later, Kaiser Hospital called police to say a man, later identified as Valenzuela, was seeking treatment for a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

During the investigation, police discovered that Garcia's young child was also in the car during the robbery and shooting.
