Robbery victim shot in head outside Denny's

VAN NUYS, Calif. The suspects shot the first victim after he refused to hand over his cell phone and wallet during a holdup at about 1 a.m. behind a Denny's restaurant at Sherman Way and Van Nuys Boulevard. The man is in critical but stable condition at a local hospital. He is expected to make a full recovery.

Police said the men escaped in a light-colored vehicle. The suspects were wearing dark-colored clothing, but no other suspect descriptions were available. Police will be using surveillance video to get more information on the suspects.

Police said it's very possible the suspects were also involved in an armed robbery off of Vanowen Street just 20 minutes later.

LAPD detective Robert Bub said the second robbery involved a similarly described vehicle. The victim in the second robbery was not injured after he surrendered his cell phone and wallet.

Anyone with information is urged to call the LAPD at (877) LAPD-24-7.
