Man's body pulled from riverbed near Newport

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. Two fishermen discovered the body at about 2 p.m. Wednesday. The body was dressed in a T-shirt, shorts, but no shoes. Authorities speculate the person was not homeless.

There have not been any missing-persons reports matching the description of the body, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Dept. Other law-enforcement agencies are being consulted.

There is speculation the man may have been caught in a tidal current or in a flash flood during a recent series of Southern California rain storms.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
