Gang raid puts 6 alleged members behind bars

GARDEN GROVE, Calif. 65 officers from the Garden Grove Police Department, the Santa Ana Police Department, and the Orange County Probation Department, served search warrants at seven residences in Garden Grove and Anaheim early Thursday morning.

Among those arrested are Edward Argueta, 26, Ysrael Garza, 28, Fernando Garza, 29, and Oscar Padilla, 18, all of Garden Grove. They face charges of being convicted felons in possession of firearms. The other suspects, Gregorio Pinto, 27, of Garden Grove, and a man police did not want to identify because he is part of an ongoing investigation, were arrested on misdemeanor warrants unrelated to the weapons charges.

Officials believe all six suspects belong to a gang that has been clashing with rivals in the Garden Grove area. Police believe the gang has been involved in at least four shootings, two assaults and numerous cases of graffiti vandalism. They also believed some of the weapons seized may have been used in the shootings.

The weapons included four shotguns, two rifles, two assault rifles, five handguns and more than a thousand rounds of ammunition.

Authorities hope the arrests have dealt a significant blow to the gang and its ongoing war.
