February 3, 2010 12:56:28 AM PST
A day at the museum turned into a frightening experience for one man and his daughter when a raccoon attacked them.Ian and McKenzie Smith from Bakersfield were at the California Living Museum, which is a zoo, visiting Ian's favorite animals, the raccoons.

As Ian got ready to take a picture, he saw a flash of gray and realized a raccoon that had escaped was coming right toward them.

"The raccoon tried to bit me and then my dad kick it and he got bit," McKenzie said.

Ian managed to get the animal off his daughter, but then it attacked his face.

"I just went toe-to-toe with the thing," Ian said.

He pinned it to the ground, but has several bites on his hands.

The museum says it knew the raccoon was on the loose, but didn't warn visitors. The park still doesn't know exactly how the animal escaped.
