Fugitive arrested after 5 hour SWAT standoff

ONTARIO, Calif. Investigators say he had barricaded himself inside the home of a relative on the 1200 block of North College Avenue. SWAT officers say they continued announcements and attempted to negotiate with Freeman but he refused to surrender or talk on the phone. After more than a 5 hour standoff, Freeman surrendered at approximately 4:15 p.m. and was taken into custody.

Ontario Police say Freeman is a sex offender. He was convicted of sexual assault charges in 2007 in Colorado.

Approximately six local residents were asked to leave their homes during the standoff for their own safety. Two local schools, Chaffey High School and Vina Danks Middle School were temporarily on lock-down during the incident.

Freeman was booked into West Valley Detention Center and will be extradited to Colorado on the out of state fugitive warrant.
