Suspected drunk driver crashes into police

ATHENS, Calif. The California Highway Patrol says the driver rear-ended the officers' car near the intersection of Imperial Highway and Vermont Avenue in the Athens area just before midnight, and then took off.

Authorities found the driver at about 1 a.m. He was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence.

No one was seriously injured in the accident, but at least one of the officers went to Harbor UCLA Medical Center to get checked out.

Los Angeles County Police operate under the county Office of Public Safety.
