SILVERWOOD LAKE, Calif. --
A Hesperia man is accused of fatally shooting his 4-year-old son, and turning his gun on himself near Silverwood Lake Monday night. San Bernardino County coroner's officials say 34-year-old Jesus Fuentes first drove his car into a guardrail on Highway 138, north of the entrance to Lake Silverwood. He then apparently shot his four-year-old son, and himself.
Motorists alerted deputies for what they thought was a single car accident.
Emergency crews found both victims inside the vehicle. They were airlifted to the hospital where the four-year-old died. Fuentes is in critical condition.
San Bernardino County sheriff's homicide detectives are investigating the incident.
