'Wolfman' to draw new generation of fans

LOS ANGELES

Oscar winner Benicio del Toro not only plays the title role, he's also one of the producers.

"It's never been remade. It's 70 years old. So there's a whole generation there that don't know this story, and the ones who know the story, hopefully they'll be pleasantly surprised by our interpretation of the original," said del Toro.

A big help with this 21st century interpretation is Oscar winning makeup designer Rick Baker.

"I think Benicio is an interesting actor, but the fact that he knew the original film and was a fan of the original film and had a poster of 'The Wolfman' in his bedroom, we clicked right away. We started talking about old Universal horror films, and it was a good bonding experience," said Baker.

"It's such a pleasure to make somebody up who wants to be made up. It's not the most fun thing to sit in a chair for three and a half hours and have a joker like me poking hair on your face and stuff, but he would get excited," said Baker.

"When you are working with someone like Rick Baker who is a master of makeup, I'll tell you what you do. You turn into a piece of canvas and let him go to town," said del Toro.

'The Wolfman' is rated R and is in theaters now.
