Horse rescued in Mira Loma after hours in mud

MIRA LOMA, Calif. Authorities said a man was riding a horse when they became stuck in the Santa Ana Riverbed. The horse sank so deep in the mud, it was resting its head on the edge of the riverbank.

The Norco Animal Rescue Team had to be called in to help. The team spent more than two hours trying to dig the horse out and was about to bring in a hoist when something amazing happened.

"We'd just sent other men back up there to get more equipment … but he managed to get up on his own," said Berwin Hanna of the Norco Animal Rescue Team.

The horse had been stuck for several hours, but animal experts say the animal appears to be OK.
