OT cuts force shuffle of LAPD officers

LOS ANGELES Chief Charlie Beck says cutting overtime means another 180 specialized officers will have to go back out on patrol duty.

Beck said Wednesday that he has already moved about 178 officers from the metro, gang and narcotics units.

He says he needed to cut the specialized units because for every hour that an officer draws overtime the department must give that same officer 1.5 hours off.

The city is facing a $212 million budget shortfall.
