Transient charged in Garden Grove bank robbery

GARDEN GROVE, Calif. Garden Grove Police got a robbery call at 10:35 a.m. from the Wilshire State Bank on Saturday, February 20.

Witnesses say a male suspect walked into the bank and handed a teller a note demanding money.

The suspect told the teller he had a handgun.

The suspect placed his hand into his coat pocket, causing the teller to believe he might be reaching for the gun. However, he never displayed a weapon.

The teller handed over an undisclosed amount of money and the suspect fled the bank on foot.

Bank security officers watched as the suspect walked toward a nearby motel.

Garden Grove officers searched the area.

They were tipped off that a man matching their description had entered a room.

Officers contacted the occupant of the room. The man surrendered with no resistance.

Police found the money, but no handgun was found.

The suspect, identified as Daniel Luther Campbell, 56, was taken to West Medical Center Anaheim where he was treated for medical conditions unrelated to this incident.
