Ex-coach convicted of unlawful sex with teen

FULLERTON, Calif. Jason Wayne Scofield, 37, pleaded guilty to felony charges stemming from his sexual relationship with the teen.

Prosecutors say Scofield met the girl while he was working as a gymnastics coach at Wildfire Gymnastics in Tustin. Investigators say their unlawful sexual relationship took place between February 17 and June 30, 2009. The two reportedly met in his car and at his Fullerton home.

In June 2009, Scofield joined the Army and was sent to Arizona. The teen's parents learned of their sexual relationship in an email from a concerned friend. Charges were filed against Scofield and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Scofield was arrested in Arizona and brought back to Orange County in October 2009 to face charges.

He is set to be sentenced on March 30. His sentence is expected to be a year in jail and three years of formal probation. Prosecutors want him to be required to register as a sex offender.
