City Council to vote on noisy jet ordinance

LOS ANGELES Jets whose takeoff noise levels are 83-weighted decibels (dBA) or greater would immediately be banned.

Two years later the ban would include planes that hit 80 dBA. And then two years after that, the ban would apply to jets hitting 77 dBA.

The planes would likely be diverted to other airports in the area including LAX and the Bob Hope Airport in Burbank.

There would be exceptions for military, government and medical aircraft.
