Pursuit suspect leaves daughter after crash

SOUTH LOS ANGELES The chase began at about 7:30 a.m. when detectives spotted the suspect, who had been under surveillance as part of a fraud investigation, in a stolen vehicle at 64th Street and Avalon Boulevard. The suspect saw the police, put his black Cadillac Escalade into reverse, crashed into a couple of parked cars and then took off.

The brief pursuit ended about a block away at Gage Avenue and San Pedro Street when the suspect crashed into two vehicles and the SUV flipped onto its side. The suspect then pushed his young daughter out of the sunroof and fled on foot.

The LAPD tried to locate the suspect with a helicopter, but he managed to escape into the surrounding neighborhood.

The suspect's daughter appeared to be OK and was released to her mother.

"She was not transported, just shaken up. Obviously this is a pretty traumatic ordeal for her," said Los Angeles police Sgt. Phillip Clayson.

At least two people were transported to the hospital for treatment.
