Missing Maywood mom escapes from captors

MAYWOOD, Calif. McKiness was taken to a local hospital for examination, but authorities reported she appeared to be in good health.

McKiness reported she had been held against her will since Thursday, but escaped Monday afternoon. She did not know the identities of suspects who allegedly held her.

Evelin McKiness was last seen leaving her home on Wednesday morning. Her family said she left to visit a male friend, but never returned or called.

"She was supposed to be back before 2 and she never answered her phone," said Dania Pur, McKiness' sister. "Her phone sounded like it was off and we didn't hear nothing from her ever."

Family members said her disappearance was very out of character because she usually spends a lot of time with her children. Her husband, who she's been separated from for quite some time, said the kids keep asking for their mom, especially their 2-year-old daughter Valerie.

"She's usually being with the kids every day and when she's not around she calls them every day," said Matt McKiness, Evelin's husband. "We haven't gotten a call from her, we haven't got nothing."

Friends told the family McKiness was seeing a man named Steve who lives near Eagle Rock, but they know very little about him.

McKiness' black 2002 Chevy Tahoe was found in Huntington Park Saturday, two days after family members reported her missing.

The Maywood Police Department will take over the follow-up investigation.
