L.A. in top 10 cities emerging from recession

LOS ANGELES According to Forbes magazine, Washington, D.C. is No. 1, thanks to an abundance of federal jobs. Next is Austin, Texas, the seat of state government. Austin has actually added jobs since 2007.

The Dallas-Fort Worth area came in third, rich in oil and happy to have avoided any housing crisis, and Minneapolis-Saint Paul is fourth.

Los Angeles finished 9th on the list. Forbes said that's due in part to early signs of recovery from the housing crisis.
