Their fathers meet under less than good circumstances, paving the way for a rocky road to the altar in a clash of two cultures.
The film reunites America with her "Real Women Have Curves" co-star Lupe Ontiveros.
"She's so brilliant and makes you laugh. She's been a part of my life since I was 17. It was amazing to work with her and be on set again," said America.
America also liked working with her movie dad, standup comedian Carlos Mencia.
"There's a lot of laughing but a lot of my stuff with Carlos is the more grounded and serious stuff, and that was really, really fun to get to do with him," America said. "It was all new for him. He really worked very hard and took it very seriously and was committed and was focused and we had a really good time doing it.
She's had fun being "Ugly Betty," too, but the show will say its final goodbyes this spring after four seasons.
"I think this journey will end in a very appropriate and satisfying way," America said. "I think, you know, it will leave people happy but also wanting more, which is what you always want."
