Torrance students walk out to protest cuts

TORRANCE, Calif. Hundreds of students gathered in front of Torrance Unified School District: West High Monday morning.

They were protesting budget cuts that will remove teachers, language programs and extracurricular activities.

One sophomore said students deserve a better education than what's proposed by the budget cuts.

After 45 minutes, the students returned to their classrooms.

Last week, students and faculty across the state protested at colleges, universities and even elementary schools to plead for help with the state's education crisis.

The cuts are one way the state is trying to deal with a $20-billion budget deficit.
