He didn't have to look too far to find the perfect fit for one character, his wife is actress Christa Miller.
We caught up with the busy couple at the annual Paley Festival, which celebrates the best of television. Lawrence offered his best advice for other couples who are partners both on and off screen.
"At work you have to respect each other professionally," said Lawrence. "I told Christa a bunch of times if she was just my wife, and not talented, she would get just a guest spot on a show. I think she is crazy funny."
And later this month, we'll see singer Sheryl Crow show off her comedy skills when she guest stars on the show.
"She's a cool girl and she's a friend of Courteney's," said Lawrence. "Life is too short not to work with people you like. Luckily she is very talented. She's like a human jukebox."
ABC's Comedy Wednesday kicks off at 8 p.m. with "Scrubs," followed by "The Middle," "Modern Family," "Cougar Town," and "Ugly Betty."
