Californians hit heaviest by Internet fraud

LOS ANGELES The Internet Crime Complaint Center says Americans lost more than $550 million to Internet fraud in 2009.

That's more than double the losses reported in 2008.

Californians report more complaints than residents of any other state.

Almost 20 percent of the complaints involved non delivery of merchandise or payment, and more than 14 percent were identity theft.

Credit card fraud and auction fraud each accounted for more than 10 percent and almost eight percent involved destruction or damage of property.
