Cool Kid uses music to make a difference

LOS ANGELES Tyrell Bell is a Cool Kid who is a talented musician and excellent student. He shares his musical talents and sees the connection when he tutors in scholastics.

"This is what they have to learn and this is why they have to learn it," said Tyrell. "With their music and creativity, it's boundless. Once you show them this, they can want to learn something else."

Tyrell's journey has taken him from gang life on the east coast to his life now at Morningside High School in Inglewood. Changing negatives to positives is a strong motivation in all that he does.

"I don't want anybody to have to live a similar lifestyle that I used to live. It's not a good lifestyle. A lot of pain comes with that. No one should have to endure that and I do my best to make sure others don't have to endure that pain," said Tyrell.

Teachers as well as students see how Tyrell is a unique student on campus.

"He's a natural leader," said Rashondra Woods, Senior Class Advisor. "You can hear it in his speech. You can see it in his walk. His whole presence just rains, 'I have a purpose and I know how to communicate this purpose.'"

With career goals pointing towards architecture and business, Tyrell has plans to help those who have been in his life.

"I want to come back to places like here and New York and places I lived and basically rebuild neighborhoods that I grew up in," said Tyrell.
