Downey officers kill hatchet-wielding man

DOWNEY, Calif. Officers opened fire on a man near Paramount Boulevard and Imperial Highway at around 6:30 p.m. Saturday, a spokesperson from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.

Detectives said the man was carrying a hatchet while walking in traffic. When the suspect refused to drop his weapon officers opened fire, killing the man.

No suspect description was immediately available.

On Friday 31-year-old Albert Valencia died after being shocked with a Taser by Downey police officers.
