L.A. to vote on money to fix Walk of Fame

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. Unfortunately, the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame, stretching from Gower Street to La Brea Avenue and Vine Street from Sunset Boulevard to Yucca Street, has its share of problems.

There are cracked sidewalks and chips in the stars, and a project to clean up the Walk of Fame would cost about $4 million.

The first phase of the project would spend about $500,000, but the money would not come from the city's general fund, which is a good thing since the city doesn't have any money to spare. The money would come from redevelopment taxes.

Officials believe that if the Walk of Fame looks better, people would spend more time there and hopefully spend more money, which would raise taxes.

The Walk of Fame currently draws about 10 million people each year.

City leaders will be taking up the issue later Friday.
