Hundreds march to honor activist Cesar Chavez

Hundreds of people marched through Mission Hills Sunday to honor labor leader and civil rights activist Cesar Chavez.It was a colorful parade, as groups representing a variety of causes that were important to Chavez, took part in the 17th annual march.

Wednesday is Cesar Chavez Day, marking the leader's birthday.

Chavez is known for helping farm workers unionize to fight for their rights in the fields of the Central Valley.

There are some closures you should know about for Cesar Chavez Day, which is being observed throughout the week.

Federal and L.A. County offices will be open Monday and Wednesday, but L.A. city offices, including libraries will be closed Monday. Federal and L.A. County offices will be open Monday and Wednesday.

State offices, including the DMV, will be closed on Wednesday. L.A. Superior Courts will be closed as well.
